Where to stay
Jordaan and the canal ring
Useful for a first stay focused on walking. Check whether your room faces a busy street and whether the building has a lift.
De Pijp or Oud-West
A good fit for cafés and neighbourhood evenings. Compare tram connections as well as room prices; a cheaper hotel can mean longer journeys.
Getting around
Walk within one district and use GVB trams or metro for longer hops. The ferry to NDSM is useful for Noord. Cycle only if you feel comfortable with busy bike traffic; pavements are for pedestrians.
A flexible itinerary
Use these three days as a starting point. Add arrival, departure or excursion days to fit your stay.
Old streets and waterways
Start near Centraal, follow the canals into Jordaan and stop for lunch rather than booking back-to-back tours. If you want the Anne Frank House, arrange its admission through the official site before fixing the rest of the day.
Art, then a market lunch
Use your museum reservation as the day's anchor. Afterwards, walk towards De Pijp for the Albert Cuyp Market and a café. Keep the evening open; this is a better day for a leisurely meal than another major attraction.
Across the IJ
Take a ferry to Noord and choose an art space or waterfront walk. Return to the centre for any sight you missed. Add another day if you want an excursion outside Amsterdam; it should not squeeze the city into two rushed days.
Food and local stops
Try a fresh stroopwafel or herring if it appeals to you, and look beyond the canal-front tourist menus for Indonesian and Surinamese cooking.
Before you book
Compare a city pass against the exact museums you will visit. A pass saves little if most of your plans are canal walks and market stops.
