Where to stay
Koukaki
Handy for the Acropolis area with cafรฉs nearby. Look at the route from the metro to the hotel, especially if you have heavy luggage.
Syntagma or Monastiraki
Central options for public transport and sightseeing. Rooms above nightlife streets can be noisy; read recent location reviews before booking.
Getting around
The metro is useful for longer journeys, while the historic centre is best tackled on foot. Trams offer a way towards the coastal districts. Check the official journey planner for your airport transfer and any service changes.
A flexible itinerary
Use these three days as a starting point. Add arrival, departure or excursion days to fit your stay.
The hill and the museum
Reserve the Acropolis for the morning, then take a proper break before the museum. Finish with dinner in Koukaki. If you are travelling in hot weather, avoid adding another exposed archaeological site at midday.
Neighbourhood Athens
Wander through Plaka and Anafiotika, then continue towards Monastiraki. Give yourself time for a long lunch and smaller churches or shops. Return to a viewpoint near sunset if the weather and your footing are suitable.
Choose the city or the sea
Pick a museum day if ancient history is your priority, or take public transport towards the Athens Riviera for a change of pace. An island trip needs its own transport plan; it is not a casual add-on to an already full day.
Food and local stops
A bakery breakfast, souvlaki lunch and shared taverna dishes make a satisfying introduction. Ask what is seasonal rather than ordering only the most familiar dishes.
Before you book
Do not assume a combined ticket or museum pass covers every site. Check the current official admission rules for the places you actually want to see.
