Where to stay
Siam or Sukhumvit near rail
Useful for shopping, restaurants and train connections. Choose the station as carefully as the hotel; a long walk in the heat changes how convenient a stay feels.
Riverside or the old city
Better for a trip centred on temples and river views. Check how you will reach evening plans, since not every riverside hotel is beside a rail station.
Getting around
BTS and MRT trains help with longer city journeys. River boats are useful for the historic area. For taxis, agree on a metered or clearly quoted trip; a tuk-tuk ride should have a price settled before departure.
A flexible itinerary
Use these three days as a starting point. Add arrival, departure or excursion days to fit your stay.
The historic river area
Start with the Grand Palace, then allow a break before Wat Pho. Cross to Wat Arun only if you still have time and energy. Keep dress requirements in mind when leaving the hotel; beachwear is not suitable for these visits.
Food and neighbourhoods
Use the morning for a neighbourhood walk or museum, then save your appetite for Yaowarat. Choose busy food stalls, carry small change and avoid ordering more than you can comfortably try. Let the evening be about food rather than another distant attraction.
A market or modern Bangkok
If it is a suitable market day, give Chatuchak a generous block of time. Otherwise, explore the Siam area or another rail-connected district. Leave spare room in your luggage and your schedule; Bangkok is a good city for unplanned discoveries.
Food and local stops
Try noodle soups, stir-fried dishes and mango sticky rice. Tell the vendor about allergies clearly; sauces and broths may contain ingredients that are not obvious.
Before you book
Buy attraction tickets through official channels. If someone tells you a major sight is closed and offers a different tour, verify with the attraction itself.
