Travel guide

Hong Kong travel guide

Split your visit between Hong Kong Island, Kowloon and one optional outing. That keeps ferry crossings enjoyable instead of making them repeated transfers. The suggested days are deliberately flexible: choose the best visibility for your skyline views and suitable conditions for any hike.

Where to stay

Central or Sheung Wan

Useful for Island-side sights, food and ferries. Check slopes and station exits, especially if you are travelling with luggage or limited mobility.

Tsim Sha Tsui or Jordan

A convenient Kowloon base for harbour walks and transport. Compare room size as well as price; compact accommodation is common.

Getting around

MTR trains are useful for longer trips; ferries and trams add local journeys. An Octopus card can simplify transport payment. Check the return sailing before an island outing and do not rely on an unverified hiking shortcut.

A flexible itinerary

Use these three days as a starting point. Add arrival, departure or excursion days to fit your stay.

Day 1

Island streets and a view

Explore Central and Sheung Wan before heading towards the Peak when visibility is good. Choose a café or tea restaurant for a break. Keep the evening on the same side of the harbour unless a particular restaurant draws you elsewhere.

Day 2

Kowloon on foot

Take a harbour crossing, walk the Tsim Sha Tsui waterfront and choose a museum or neighbourhood food stop. West Kowloon deserves a separate block of time if you want its cultural venues. Avoid combining every shopping district in one day.

Day 3

An island or a trail

Choose a ferry outing such as Cheung Chau, or a suitable walk if conditions and your fitness allow. Carry water and check current access. Use a fourth day for the cultural visit you skipped rather than adding another ambitious excursion.

Food and local stops

A cha chaan teng is a good introduction to local café culture. Try dim sum with time to linger, and check menus if you have allergies.

Before you book

A cheap-looking room can have a difficult location or very little space. Check recent reviews, dimensions and the exact address before booking.
