Where to stay
Sultanahmet
Useful for an early start at the historic sights. Check nearby dining and evening transport if your plans extend beyond the old city.
Beyoฤlu or Karakรถy
Consider these for cafรฉs and a more varied evening scene. Look at slopes, stairs and noise when choosing an individual hotel.
Getting around
Use trams and metro where they fit the route, and ferries for selected crossings. An Istanbulkart can simplify public transport. Roads can be slow, so a taxi is not always the fastest way between central districts.
A flexible itinerary
Use these three days as a starting point. Add arrival, departure or excursion days to fit your stay.
The historic core
Visit one major Sultanahmet interior in the morning, then explore nearby streets with a proper lunch break. Dress for religious-site rules and avoid planning around assumptions about worship access. Keep the afternoon lighter than the morning.
Palace and market
Give Topkapฤฑ a generous block of time. Afterwards, choose a market or waterfront walk, rather than rushing into another large museum. If you want specialist shopping, compare quality and prices before making a purchase.
Across the water
Take a ferry to a different neighbourhood and make lunch part of the outing. A fourth day can hold a longer Bosphorus journey or another historic interior. Bรผyรผkada is a separate island excursion, so allow a full transport plan if you choose it.
Food and local stops
Try a bakery breakfast, a simple lokanta lunch and regional dishes beyond kebabs. A ferry-side tea break can be as memorable as a formal meal.
Before you book
Admission prices and exchange rates can change substantially. Recheck major tickets near departure and keep the city budget in local currency when comparing costs.
