Mexico City travel guide

Mexico City is easier when you leave one district for each main day. Keep arrival gentle, especially if you are not used to the city's altitude. A museum, a neighbourhood walk and a good meal are enough to make a full day without adding several distant stops.

Where to stay

Roma or Condesa

Useful for restaurants and neighbourhood walking. Confirm your exact street, transport connections and room noise rather than relying on the district's reputation.

A central hotel near your main sights

Convenient for a history-led stay. Check recent location reviews and plan reliable evening transport for journeys beyond the immediate area.

Getting around

Use public transport for suitable daytime routes and reputable rides for other trips. Allow traffic buffers and save the exact pickup address. An outing beyond the city needs a separate travel plan, not a casual gap between museum bookings.

A flexible itinerary

Use these three days as a starting point. Add arrival, departure or excursion days to fit your stay.

Day 1

The historic centre

Walk a manageable central route and choose one interior visit. Take a long lunch and avoid scheduling the first day too heavily after arrival. If you feel tired, leave another museum for later rather than pushing through it.

Day 2

Chapultepec

Make one major museum the day's focus, then spend time in the park. Check the collection's closure day before booking anything else. The area deserves a proper visit rather than a quick stop before a cross-city transfer.

Day 3

Coyoacรกn and a spare day

Give Coyoacรกn its own outing, with any must-see admission reserved. Use a fourth day for Roma, Condesa or another food and culture route. A Teotihuacรกn excursion requires its own day and transport arrangement.

Food and local stops

Try tacos, regional dishes and a market breakfast, choosing busy places. Ask clearly about spice, allergies and ingredients rather than assuming a sauce is mild.

Before you book

Book popular small museums through their official channels. Check entry requirements and local advice separately; a city itinerary is not a substitute for current travel guidance.
